8 BOOKS YOU NEED TO READ | BLOGMAS DAY 18

Hello lovelies, welcome to blogmas day 18! We are so so close to the end and I can't believe I have got this far!
Apologies in advance if my posts aren't too long/in depth or are up at weird times...or if I am just not that active on twitter in the nest few days; I'm starting new shift times from tomorrow at 4am and will probably struggle to be alive.
Anyway, today I am going to be telling you about 8 books you need to get your hands on this Christmas! When you just need a few minutes to chill, books are the best way to get lost!

Enjoy!

The first book you need to read is The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. A lot of you may know this because it was also made into a (very good) film.
The Lovely Bones follows Susie Salmon -a 14-year-old girl who is murdered- as she watches over her family and her killer from heaven. Throughout the story, Susie faces a personal battle; what matters to her more, revenge or seeing her family at peace?
Rating: 9/10.
This book is so haunting and tragic, and will definitely leave you needing tissues.

Number two is The Book of Luke by Jenny O'Connell. Not to be confused with the bible so make sure you type in jenny's name!
The story follows Emily Abbott, "girl most likely to be nice" as she moves back to her hometown in Boston. It's her senior year and she is tired of being the nice girl. When Emily and her friends are asked to find something to put in their school's time capsule, they decide to make an instruction book to teach future boys how to treat girls. Of course they have to test it out on someone. Enter Luke, who just broke up with Emily's friend Josie by email. Nothing could go wrong...could it?
Rating: 7.5/10.
I read this so long ago but it's such a good one. Everyone loves a petty love story, especially when it involves a bad boy and teaching him a lesson!

Numer 3 is Suicide Notes from Beautiful Girls by Lynn Weingarten. This is one of the darker books that I am a sucker for!
June and Delia used to be inseparable. Now, having not spoken in a year, June goes to school one day and it is announced that Delia has killed herself. Not convinced that her ex-best friend would possibly end her life, she is encouraged to delve deeper by Delia's boyfriend and finds out some shocking truths. Was Delia's death really all that it seems?
Rating: 8/10.
Just because I'm so curious I would love the ending to be a little more insightful, and I did guess part of the plot but that's not a bad thing! This book is confusing and full of plot twists; completely gripping and amazing for you guys who love a good murder mystery.

Say hello to possibly one of my favourite books of all time; Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver.
Sam has the perfect life. She is popular, has a great boyfriend, amazing friends and a bright future ahead of her. Things soon change when she dies in a car accident after a party. However, she wakes up again. Sam relives the day she died over and over and over again. Realising her life actually wasn't that perfect at all, she only has a matter of time to fix things.
Rating: 10/10 all day
I love Lauren Olivers books so much and this one is phenomenal. I cried like a baby and I will always go back and read it. They recently made a film out of it on Netflix which is a very good adaptation. This book is a must read.

I'll keep this one brief because if you've been around for about a year you'll have seen my post on this! This is All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. She actually read my blog post about it too and I cried.
The story follows Violet and Finch, two teens who come together, desperately wanting to escape their town. Violet is troubled and heartbroken by her sisters death and Finch suffers with severe mental health issues. They meet on their schools' bell tower, both planning to jump, who saves who is never made clear. As the pair work on a project together and become closer, Violet begins to love life and find her happiness, but Finch can't seem to find his.
Rating: 10/10
This book is absolutely heartbreaking and will genuinely change your outlook on life. It will have you in absolute buckets and really opens your eyes to mental health issues and dealing with other difficult subjects.

I'm pretty sure this is my favourite book of all time. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.
The book follows Eleanor, who is bullied because of her full figure, ginger hair and appearance. She has a tough home life, and lacks basic necessities like a toothbrush and clothes that fit her, as well as having an abusive stepfather. Eleanor one day meets Park, a half Korean boy, who listens to weird music and has a loving home life. The two very different students become close, despite their differences. Even though they know first love never lasts, and that they are different in just about every way...the two are desperate to make it work, even when everything around Eleanor is crashing down.
Rating: 10/10
I absolutely loved this book in every way. I bawled and bawled and bawled; it is so heartbreaking and wonderful, and I love that it was set in 1986 too. This book will change your life.

This book, One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus is a cross between The Breakfast Club, PLL and Gossip Girl. 5 students in detention, all completely different...only 4 of them walk out alive. Everyone has secrets they are desperate to keep that way, but they are all unearthed somehow. How do you solve a murder when everyone has a motive?
Rating: 9/10
I absolutely loved this. I loved working out who did it (I was right!) and it was totally gripping. Really quite dark and I loved all the characters back stories and watching the aftermath when all their dirty laundry gets aired. 100% recommend!

Finally you can see that my copy of The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson is very well loved. I have read this book more times than I can remember.
Lennie is struggling with the sudden death of her beloved older sister, Bailey. To cope with the overwhelming grief, Lennie writes poems and conversations about her sister on bits of paper ans scatters them around her town. She forms a bond with her sister's former fiancé as they both struggle with their loss, as well as connecting with Joe; the new boy in town. Joe shares her love for music and at times, makes her forget her loss. Toby (her sister's former fiancé) understands how she feels and shares her grief. But you can't be with two people at once, especially when one of them is your dead sister's fiancé...
Rating: 10/10
This is heart wrenchingly emotional. You really feel like you know Lennie as she discovers more about her sisters' death and also her life. It really is a beautiful story and worth a read for anyone.

I hope you enjoyed this little post! I have asked for a kindle for Christmas and am super excited to get back into reading again! Let me know if you have read any of these books and tell me what you thought!
